 Album update
« Thread Started on Apr 15, 2007, 3:39pm »

Heya - just thought I'd bring you guys up to speed. These are from Graeme's emails over the past few days.

Apr 10, on how the album is coming along:

"Final couple of mixes to be picked up this afternoon. Sounding pretty good on the whole. No release date yet. Cover artwork still on the artist's easel."

Apr 12, to the question of label, distribution, availability outside NZ etc:

"Not sure yet myself. You'll be first to know if anything comes of it. Final mixes complete. Mastering under way soon. Cover art finished and being picked up this afternoon, very exciting."

Apr 15 (a few minutes ago) in response to my request to post his messages on the board:

"Sure, the cover artwork is Fantastic! Mastering plans under way. Moving fast now. Will be in touch with the Nun in the next few days so a release date might not be far away."

So, yay! Coming along nicely. Right now we're rooting for NZ in the World Cup. Any other cricket fans out there?

great news about a new Verlaines album! any idea when it'll be out?

also a shame about NZ in the cricket World Cup, I thought they were gonna go all the way... the damn Aussies are just too damn good for everyone else, that's the problem!

I'm in touch with Graeme on a pretty regular basis these days. I'd owed him an email since the 23rd and just got the chance to reply. He'd said the mastering was being done, so when I get a response I'll know if there's been any progress in the last five or so days. The release date shouldn't be too far away now. Album cover is done - pretty awesome, surreal, mastering either in progress or complete... News could come any day now. *fingers crossed*

And yep, shame about NZ. I was really rooting for the Black Caps after Windies bowed out. The actual final was.. ugh... pretty fucked up. Did you watch it? Due to rains earlier in the day it ran well into the late evening/early night, hardly anyone could see anything, there was major confusion left and right with the Aussies celebrating, thinking they'd won while the umpires were still on the field saying "nuh-uh, the game's not over yet." They went back to play in the dark and offically won maybe 10 minutes later.

I didn't see the Cricket WC final, but I heard about it - I couldn't understand why they just didn't come back the next day to finish it off properly?! what's that about?

excellent news re: the new verlaines album mind you, exciting times!

Hah. I can't believe you actually beat me to it. I blame work and the loss of all my login passwords after my last PC died. Just retrieved the site one yesterday. Yay for that. How goes it, anyway? Gotta start work so I'll catch you later.

P.S. Check the front page of the site for updates and further news.

Exciting news! I was just checking the "Verlaines" entry at wikipedia and saw the news. If it's anything like the last release (wow, 11 years ago! gawd im-a gettin' old). Checked out that myspace link, listened to the "It's Easier To Hard" sample and liked what I was hearing. Glad to see this release is on FN, but wondering if there will be international distribution?

So far all Graeme's told me is that you can probably order it from FN and it might also be available from SmokeCDs. No touring in the plans, though. I think the entire album is pretty fabulous - night-time listening - lights out, earphones in... bliss... The music just blows you away... some pretty cool (and stealable) lyrics in there too.
