Track listing: Hanging by Strands, Bonfire, Sky-Blue Window, Jailhouse 4:00am, Feather Fell, Perfect Day, When I Fall, Uncle Big Jaw's Late-Night Farewell, Dunderhead, Dawdling on the Bridge, Writing on the Wall, Reasons for Leaving, Coming Back to You
I know I'll get into trouble with the Bird-Dog gang but this is my second fave. Or perhaps they're tied. Better? No, I know. I can't help it - to steal a line from Jerry McGuire, it "had me at hello".
'Dawdling on the Bridge' is my #1 on this album. I remember getting this off Audiogalaxy and thinking "Ok, I NEED to own this CD."
I love the relaxed mellowness of the middle portion of the album. Is "horse-latitudinal" an accepted expression? After 'Bonfire' (with that wonderful reference to "single-digit IQ words") there's a stretch that's like a gentle massage before 'Dawdling on the Bridge' kicks in ("Fending off bouts of rage..." - what an intro!).
I'm no critic and I honestly can't say what it is that makes this entire album stand out so much for me. I just get a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I think of it.
9.5/10

Bloody shame this album isn't widely available in N.America. I bought it mailorder from NZ. Love it.

Dawdling on the Bridge is my favourite Verlaines song. I can't find this album anywhere.
