Long overdue, I know.
These are a just few of my picks:
"...my saviour's in a paper bag" -- Tomorrow
"I know I placed those shoes upon your feet For you to walk right in then over me But I'm not so easy now..." -- Overdrawn
"Well if something could die in an afternoon Anything else was eventually doomed..." -- Crisis After Crisis
"...Totally written off but there's laughter at chaos." -- Pyromaniac
And possibly my all-time favorite lyric:
"You can follow me down I'll go and chase my own reflection. But I'll be watching you lie From a thousand miles in any direction. I'm going back to my cell. If any kind of hero will do I will borrow one and send him to you..." -- New Kind of Hero

a few quick picks from what I can remember in my current drunken state! ;D
"It's hard living your life On a knife edge. You either cut your feet and die where you bleed Or fall of the edge. " - Joed Out
"You're as wide and empty as some ocean. I won't ever lie relieved on your shore. But I just can't swim no more. I want you to hold me, I want you to hold me, enfold me Don't stare so cold at me..." - Gloom Junky
"I drink with you and it all tastes fine Say I'll be yours as long as you'll be mine I give you clouds to cling to
And I dance with you beating 2-4 time You want me to waltz but it don't feel right So why do I continue?" - Hanging by Strands
Also all of Don't Send Me Away - short but brilliant!

When I would sing along with the record while driving, I couldn't read the Lyrics Sheet, and I couldn't figure out why Mr Downes would write the lyric:
"Buzzin' around my head like a tortured mime!"
I was bummed to find out he actually said "Tourted Fly", as my lyric is obviously superior.
And the next time you listen to WOW, you're gonna sing it too.

The only thing I'd enjoy more than watching a mime being tortured would be watching it happen in slow motion... And DAMN -- I only just figured out who this is. Thought I'd edit it to add... heh heh Mr Roboburger.

"Sitting in your bedroom and you've sung all your last regrets; Buzzing white lines on the screen of your TV set; Re-light the last portion of your cigarette... The only thing that you spared me to love was your breath And now it's gone."
GENIUS SONG, TOTALLY GENIUS SONG!! This is my favorite Verlaines lyric.

(Yay, my first post!) Apart from the fact that every Verlaines lyric is my favourite, because they're just so much better than those of most other bands, here are few quotes that spring to mind:
"Tones of resignation I'll probably see you 'round Beautifully put down... a beautiful put-down" (Slow Sad Love Song)
"The old man looked overbearing As under his breath he started swearing He didn't say yes But then he's hard of hearing He's hard of hearing me" (Come Sunday)
"You don't know the ins and outs of desire You don't know what makes a person tire" (Just Mum)
"I dreamt I wasn't a human I was really a snake Is that any worse than what I woke to?" (Faithfully Yours)
Also, the entire first verse of C.D. Jimmy Jazz and Me is an absolute favourite. Plenty other that currently don't spring to mind too. It's all quite simply exceptional work by Mr. Downes. The man deserves a statue. Now if only I had a lawn.
BTW: I've noticed that there's no album review topic for the wonderful "Some Disenchanted Evening". Is there going to be one? I'm curious to know what others think about this album and what their favourite tracks are.

Pretty much all of "Crises After Crises" and "CD Jimmy Jazz and Me" I really enjoy, the first and last verses in the latter song really strike a deep chord in me. And "Baud To Tears", being the very first Verlaines song I ever heard, has a special place in my heart.

Yes, Darren, I believe you are correct. Perhaps ipafiend has had a few too many india pale ales...Not that that's a bad thing.
But Graheme has made many drinking references.
"And you land in a public house..."
Whatever you run into
"Saw a guy drunk where the people would dance, and men of similarity, laugh out of charity"
C.D., Jimmy Jazz and Me
