a band that never gets the credit they deserve is the Apartments. peter milton walsh, the leader and only consistent member, used to be in the go-betweens in one of their earlier lineups. The Apartments were indeed a great "band" ( Project). Its a shame that Peter Milton Walsh doesnt make any music anymore. The first album is my least fave record, sorry Mr.Keytocacti , but i dont have such memories as you..my faves are "Drift" and "Farewell..." Others: The Chills, The Clean, The Bats, Able Tasmans, Sneaky Feelings, Go Betweens, Ed Kuepper, Blackeyed Susans....

ed kuepper (of the saints, the lighthouse keepers and the laughing clowns) is very suave. the laughing clowns version of 'eternally yours' is fantastic. he also did an acoustic version on one of his solo albums that's equally excellent. PLUS peter milton walsh from the apartments plays bass on the laughing clowns version which makes it even cooler. 'honey steels gold' is a great solo album, and if you come across 'today' you should buy it. and despite the revolting goth rock fan base, the birthday party have some great songs. 'jennifer's veil' and 'mutiny in heaven' for example. there's also the single they did with members of the go-betweens (the tuff monks 'after the fireworks') that isn't really much of a song, but it's interesting how two totally different bands could be connected. of course heroin will do that to people. and what can you say about the go-betweens. so many great songs and albums. 'spring hill fair' is my favorite, if only for 'unkind and unwise' and 'part company'. in fact all of their albums (though maybe not so much '16 lovers lane") are sort of essential. the triffids 'raining pleaure' is a classic. hit and miss though.

accept its brilliance, thokei! you are getting sleepy- when you wake up you will find yourself compelled to listen to this album over and over and over again. you will be unable to deny its power. on the count of three you wake up feeing refreshed but will remember nothing other than your need to listen to the apartments' first album. 1 2 and 3 -everyone else, go here and check it out. www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,241011-538771,00.html

Hi everyone. I live in Oklahoma U.S.A. and I've been a fan of NZ/Aus music since the mid-eighties. Other than the Verlaines I would have to go with The Bats. Their new one The Guilty Office is great.
