I just thought I'd share the joy of a few bands I've been loving lately! first is a Canadian band called Stars, the debut album is Belle & Sebastian-esque loveliness in parts. the second album has a different sound, more experimental I guess. all good though. you can listen to both albums streamed on the website. www.arts-crafts.ca/stars/second band I've just discovered this afternoon. they have a good name, Misnomer and they're a young band from the uk, apparently making big waves and a big impression. mp3s available for download on the site. www.misnomer.co.uk/

Thanks for the heads up! can't fault a bit of twee! ;D speaking of which, I finally got the new Trembling Blue Stars album and EP today! they are very twee, the lead singer practically invented twee with his original band The Field Mice, very cool! plus I got the best of McCarthy! I've been waiting ages for them!

plus I got the best of McCarthy! You know, I read that as "the best of McCartney"! I'm sure Steven will be relieved. ;D

my friend beth sings in the trembling blue stars. she used to (and i mean over 15 years ago) come into a record store i worked at on melrose ave in LA. she was into oingo boingo. so i forced her into buying a lot of creation records and sarah records and flying nun records. she is the coolest. it's funny that the field mice were on sarah and now she's in a band with former members of that band. swell.

Beth Arzy who used to be in the band Aberdeen? Trembling Blue Stars have been going since around 1996, I think, maybe 1995. before that Bob Wratten, the lead singer, had the Field Mice on sarah records - then Northern Picture Library. they were on Shinkansen for a while, the same people who used to run sarah records. the sarah records period was great though! do you know The Orchids?

Excellent band, Stars! Haven't heard the new one yet but it's on my Christmas list...
Our man Paco (aka Steven) has been known to trade Sarah singles for home-baked cookies! Any takers?
