We, the Verlaines have been back in the studio recording for an album tentatively entitled "Beautiful Cruelty". Last recording session is this week before we start mixing with Tex Houston. I'm looking forward to this as he makes some pretty mean home brew. We don't expect any of the children at Rip It Up to get this one either. We might even be making a video (our first for 12 years - whoopee!). We may even tour... Went to see Howe Gelb the other night. He's a pretty incredible musician. Too bad there were so few at Sammy's to see a musician of such calibre.

Just an update. Tex Houston is currently mixing our new album. Looks like we'll be down at his house drinking all his beer and having a listen in a week or 2.

Hi again, just another update. The new record is progressing. We were back in the studio a couple of weekends ago to track one more song that GD recently wrote. We will shortly be back mixing again after living with mixes of 9 songs over christmas and new year. I think we have 14 odd songs at the moment. We met over the weekend to talk over release options and to work up a concept for an album cover. So things are gathering pace now. We are pretty keen to do a run of the album on vinyl too. If you would like to register an interest in receiving a copy on vinyl please email us at theverlaines@yahoo.com. We'll keep in touch with you regarding the release. Bye for now.

Good, good, news. New member here, old fan. Albany, New York, USA.
I'm gonna have to track down some Steinlagers to celebrate.

Yes, there's a few dozen bottles been festering down in the cellar for a decade or so. If you guys are ever in the neighborhood drop in and we'll drink some magic! I'll get a mail off to the yahoo account, there is a turntable buried down in the basement somewhere. I'm assuming it will be released on CD as well? I got Pot Boiler mail order from some shop in NZ, took about a week, great service. Thanks for making this place. I realize it's not as busy as the Coldplay forum but know you're appericiated. gueuze

Well, to continue to derail this topic....
At my favorite little wine bar 2 nights ago I had a glass of Picnic pinot noir from 2 Paddocks vineyard in Otego, NZ. When I saw it on the "Specials by the glass" chalkboard I HAD to try it! Very nice, but I can't claim to be well versed in my Pinot. More of a shiraz, grenache, mourvedre guy.
Anyway, as we all hunker down to wait for the new release, what else is there to do but drink..... and work a bit.

Two Paddocks is up the road from here. Pinot Noir is all the rage up there in Central Otago. It's gaining an international rep. Not many places can grow it successfully but they definitely can up there. Two Paddocks is owned by the actor Sam Neil who comes from Mosgiel just out of Dunedin. Robert Scott from the Clean also comes from Mosgiel. The butcher out there does really good bacon.
By the sounds of it you are probably a drinker of Australian reds or perhaps Cotes du Rhone? There's a great 90's Australian band called Crow. They've just reformed. Couple of great albums called 'My Kind of Pain" and the more refined "Li-loing". Check them out it you can. As for French? Perhaps Francoise Hardy.

Those Drie Fonteinen and Cantillons look very tasty. I know I can see the Rosé de Gambrinus and another looks like Bruocsella 1900 Grand Cru (Maybe Iris). Good Stuff
