Yes, I know this has nothing more than the name together with the subject of this message board, but anyhow, M Verlaine deserves interest, not just because of his poetry, but because of his character.
Just read in the newspaper about Verlaine trying too shoot Rimbaud, trying to put his own wife on fire and throwing his newborn son into the wall. He had grave booze problems, but that's no excuse.
Anyway, Paul Verlaine really admired Rimbaud. And why? Because Rimbaud didn't want to have his poems published!
Yes, maybe that's a sign of a real poet. But poetry which isn't supposed to be read...why is it supposed to be written? A petit bourgeois commentary, but still...
