Hello, friends...
Listening to: - The Radio Dept. - This Past Week- kids from the indiepop-shoegazing school who are great at it - El Perro del Mar - some EP, one girl who sounds like 60s girl group produced by Phil Spector - Brighter - Singles. Cute indiepop from Sarah Records.

Paul Gilbert -- Paul the Young Dude. I can't get over how awesome this is. Paul is the true definition of 'virtuoso'.
Enuff Z'nuff -- miscellaneous tracks. Severely underrated band.
Rush -- Chronicles, Roll the Bones and Grace Under Pressure. Old favorites that I just re-discovered a few weeks ago. How can anyone find Geddy Lee's voice annoying? Arrgh! It's positively addictive! I kept Rush on repeat for almost a week -- non-stop -- and only quit when the need for a quiet moment became overwhelming.
Fairport Convention -- this never gets old. I'm only now exploring the non-Denny releases. Niiiice!
My Chemical Romance -- recent discovery. Intriguing.
Reigndance -- perennial favorites. I just got hold of a bunch of unreleased material from another Reigndance addict. I really love this band... *sigh*
--
"Music is the doctor." - The Doobie Bros.
edited 'cuz "became" and "because" are two different words.

Howdy Gunnar! Out of curiosity, is anyone else here on Audioscrobbler? For the uninitiated, it's a site that tracks your listening habits (via a tiny plugin) and outputs the results in chart format. My page is here. It's dumb but fun, and oddly addictive...

opiate_smile, I checked out Audioscrobbler - for a second there I thought it was telling me you were a huge Rush fan! Anyhow, I don't listen to music on my computer at home so I don't think I'll be partaking in that.
current favorites at work:
Sammy Davis Jr - Something for Everyone Strokes - Is This It? Radiohead - OK Computer Clash - double CD (Greatest hits? I can't remember what it is called)

Wait a minute, you are a huge Rush fan! I am not such a huge fan of Rush - it feels like I have been forced to listen to Rush my whole life. In Canada radio stations have to play about 30% Canadian content so you always get to hear the same Canadian bands over, and over, and over ... you might like it here!

I don't know if I'd consider myself a "huge Rush fan" but I won't deny that I like 'em okay. I go through phases -- that entire Rush log was from one weekend where I was testing my tolerance for Geddy Lee's voice. Heh... Long story there. (The fact that others find it annoying is a constant source of amusement for me.) I used to be a major Rush fan back in the early 90s but I couldn't stomach them much after the mid 90s. Anyway... that weekend I was surprised to learn there was still some Rush-love left, so I let it run its course. It's over now so I'm back to getting my Canadian kicks from Econoline Crush and Big Wreck. I'm actually a big fan of Canada. If it wasn't for the freakish weather I'd probably be living there now...

I'm listening to a lovely duo called the Longshadows - Robin Wilson from the Gin Blossoms on vocals, and everything else (songwriting, instruments, production) Steve French of the British band Star-Club. Check 'em out on MySpace. I'm also on a Todd Rundgren kick so Something/Anything graces my CD player a lot these days...

currently listening to the Gas Giants' 'From Beyond The Back Burner' album, specifically... 'Stinking Up The Charts' at the moment. For some reaon I had an irresistible urge to play that album the other day. I still like the last track best, with Robin talking. I don't have a clue what he's going all about - sounds like studio talk - but it's always struck me as pretty darn funny. Love the lyrics and the song itself as well. Neato way to close an album. These days I've mostly been listening to a 1973 compilation of John Denver's Greatest Hits. Go ahead and laugh. I don't care. I love it! ;D

yeah, the end of You're Absolutely is great, what with Robin's (I think...) dog barking and all sorts going on, great studio fun! gotta love it...
John Denver, nothing wrong with that! did I ever tell you that my parents saw him live in Cardiff in the mid 90's? they said he was great!

Joy Division- 'Unknown Pleasures' & 'Closer'. I've been a fan of JD for years, but it's only reciently that I really started listening to them almost obsessively. 'Closer' especially gives me the chills.
The Wipers- 'Is This Real?' 'Youth Of America' 'Over The Edge'. Another longtime fav whose CDs I'm on my way to wearing out from almost daily playing. It's easy for me to get lost in the music- the lyrics especially I really find myself identifying with.
The Verlaines- 'Bird Dog' & 'Hallelujah All the Way Home'. Both are simply brilliant. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at that....
