Ahh yes, the place where we brag about our stellar musical tastes. I just got Gyllene Tider's "Finn 5 Fel" after a long, long wait. Awesome album. I think it will be in my CD player for a long time to come.... I'm also going through a Tears For Fears / James / The Cure phase these days but they're on the backburner until I exhaust GT.

Right now I'm listening to The Go-Betweens' 16 Lover's Lane album, specifically Streets of your Town, nice song!
in general lately I've been downloading and listening to the Elliott Smith albums, good stuff so far! I like them.
The Killers album Hot Fuss is kicking arse, I love the song All These Things That I've Done.
The new Manics album is also excellent.
I could go on, but I won't, just yet!

Placebo! Where has Brian Molko been all my life? I just discovered the band via the film Cruel Intentions. For some reason I'd always associated the name with KoRN and Limp Bizkit. Oops! I've been listening to the same eight tracks almost continuously since I started to explore the band's offerings. Now I need to launch an assault on Amazon and re-adjust my top five. Apologies to James - you've been booted to number six. ;D I need recommendations on which albums to buy first. Anyone? Anyone?

I seem to remember their debut offering, the eponymous 'Placebo' was a good album, the one that houses the excellent Nancy Boy.
You can't beat the urgency of debut albums anyway, they're usually the better albums of most bands. Which brings us to a discussion of sorts - maybe I'll start a thread on it? What bands choked after releasing their debut album, recording only shite afterwards? - or the inverse, what bands recorded a shite debut to return with a decent effort later in their careers?
Anyway, as for the other Placebo albums, I haven't heard them! I seem to remember hearing bad things about the album that the song Pure Morning was on. Not sure of the title of said album, though.

Is it just me, or does Brian Molko sound like a younger, hipper Geddy Lee on "Nancy Boy"? Maybe not hipper. We all know Geddy is the King of Hip. [ insert confused look here ]
I'd nominate The Waxwings as the poster boys for that category. Low to the Ground held such promise - not a bad track on the entire album. Shadows of the Waxwings just failed to deliver. Sad, really.
On the flipside, I've never been able to sit through Skid Row's debut album, but the follow-up, Slave to the Grind is solid - one of my favorite albums ever. (The debut has some amazing songs, I'll admit - "18 and Life", "Youth Gone Wild" and my personal fave, "I Remember You", but three great songs do not translate to a great album if the rest of it is crap.)
Edited to add: Until I get my hands on Happy Pills I should reserve judgment but screw it, Candlebox can sit right down next to the Waxwings. What the heck was up with Lucy? Their self-titled debut was superb. The follow-up, not so much.

Hmmm, Placebo love didn't last too long. Fizzed out after a week or so. I've just started listening to the Beatles again, inspired mainly by Ray Coleman's Lennon: The Definitive Biography. I've never been much of a Beatles fan -- too many insipid pop songs among the true gems - but I'm enjoying the run while it lasts.
I'm finally getting into Slade and T. Rex full-force. I've had a Slade record (Slade Alive) lying around for ages but I never had the patience to sit through it. Time are changing - I'm discovering other releases and loving 'em. T.Rextasy was a long time coming because I'd always associated "Get It On" with the ghastly Kingdom Come pseudo-hit of the same name. Until last night I'd never heard the right one. Imagine that! I've always had a soft spot for Bolan though so it was bound to happen sooner or later.
Also noteworthy - I can't get certain tracks from Ready To Fly out of my head. I'm thinking specifically of the demo version of "Hole in the Ground" and the released version of "Tremble". Great stuff indeed.
ETA: I should mention that I've listened to Gyllene Tider's GT25: Samtliga Hits! almost every single day for the past two months. Its "right now" status remains unchallenged. Finn5Fel usually follows unless I run out of time. Addicted? Oh yes!

right now I'm listening/watching the video to Suede's song Trash - off the fabulous Coming Up album from the late-ish 90's. I loved them for a nanosecond in the 90's. Maybe even a bit longer than that, the album before Coming Up is cool! in general lately I've been listening to: Belle & Sebastian (as per usual) - Boy With The Arab Strap & Dear Catastrophe Waitress. Stars - a recent band I discovered through a website of a pretty cool Indian/British guy who is the one-man band that is White Town (website is: www.bzangygroink.co.uk/) - anyway, Stars are Canadian pop, I like 'em right now. The Smiths are now on Vh2... actually it's just Morrissey. So this is likely to be shite! that is all, for now!

I haven't been able to get Paul Gilbert's Paul the Young Dude off my stereo since I got it a week ago. This collection is simply *amazing*. It's occupying the spot previously held by T. Rex's Electric Warrior (expanded version) - brilliant album, and the extras and Marc Bolan interview at the end... icing!
Other recent passions --
Mötley Crüe - Girls Girl Girls (expanded version). I had the original when it came out and to this day it's one of my favorite albums. Ridiculous as it may seem, I just love 80s-era Crüe. On the other hand, I just read this morning that they're getting back together and it disturbs me. There's only one band I'd like to see re-group, and if you can't guess, you're in the wrong place.
Boston's Third Stage. I'm surprised at how good this still sounds.
Lou Reed - Transformer - recent acquisition. Insane. I love it!
Snow Patrol - The Final Straw - A+
Eric Johnson - Ah Via Musicom - because I'm in a guitary mood these days. Eric is the best.
Also listening to a bit of Slade, Mott the Hoople, and (of course) the Beatles.

Recent -- Beatles (various albums, but that's over for me) Placebo (Once More With Feeling: Singles 1996-2004) James - Laid
Current -- Free (Best Of... 20th Century Masters Millenium Collection - short but sweet! Ahh, Paul Kossoff... what a talent. Blues/rock is easily my favorite sub-genre of guitar-rock.) Manic Street Preachers (Lifeblood - underrated) Fairport Convention (Liege and Lief - an old fave) Led Zeppelin DVD (phe-nom-e-nal!)
Cued up and waiting -- T. Rex - The Slider The Kinks - ...Village Green Preservation Society
I think my music and I are gonna have an awesome year. ;D

Hey Thokei,
The second Nuggets set is stellar as well. I think the first one concentrates on North American stuff, but the sequel collects the coolest fuzzed-out singles from the rest of the globe. There's even some amazing NZ stuff, like the La De Da's "How Is The Air Up There". Get in touch with me if you'd like copies of the set...
